Στο βημόθυρο της Ωραίας Πύλης του Παλαιού Καθολικού, που έχει γραπτή και ανάγλυφη διακόσμηση, απεικονίζονται ο αρχάγγελος Γαβριήλ και η Παναγία στο αριστερό και δεξιό φύλλο αντιστοίχως. Οι μορφές αποδίδονται στα μεσαία διάχωρα του βημόθυρου και επιστέφονται από οξυκόρυφα τόξα πολλαπλής καμπυλότητας. Ο αρχάγγελος Γαβριήλ απεικονίζεται όρθιος, ολόσωμος, με έντονο διασκελισμό, να κρατάει ράβδο και να υψώνει το δεξί χέρι σε χειρονομία ευλογίας. Η Θεοτόκος εικονίζεται ένθρονη να κρατάει αδράχτι και νήμα ερυθρού χρώματος. Πλούσιος είναι ο ξυλόγλυπτος διάκοσμος του βημόθυρου, που εξωτερικά κοσμείται με περιελισσόμενο λοξό βλαστό. Η σκηνή του Ευαγγελισμού επιστέφεται από μία ταινία, όπου σημειώνεται με εξώγλυφα γράμματα λειτουργική επιγραφή και στο κάτω μέρος αναγράφεται αφιερωματική επιγραφή. Στα άνω διάχωρα, που έχουν τη μορφή τεταρτόκυκλου, σχηματίζονται σε διάτρητη τεχνική ελισσόμενοι φυλλοφόροι βλαστοί και άνθη. Τέλος, στα κάτω διάχωρα αναπτύσσονται τριπλές ταινίες που διαπλέκονται γύρω από ένα ρόδακα, σε διάτρητη τεχνική.
